APC will not participate in Zamfara elections, insists INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday insisted that the Congress of Progressives (APC) will not stage candidates for the 2019 parliamentary elections in Zamafa.
The president of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, explained this on the sidelines of the opening of a two-day validation workshop entitled "Study on the cost of elections in the ECOWAS region" yesterday. in Abuja.
"We made a statement to Zamfara and nothing has changed, we stand by the statement we made," he said. Yakubu reiterated that the deadline for submitting party names to the Commission was 18 October, and that it would submit a full report after 18 November.
The INEC had informed the ruling APC in a leaked memo that it was not allowed to nominate candidates for election positions in Zamfara in the 2019 election, and said that their position was maintained.
